Educere
Educere is an online education system that delivers online courses mainly via the Internet for grades 9-12. Educere’s purpose is to provide courses offered entirely online for credit recovery, student enrichment, and to make up failed courses; however, the WTSD offers virtual summer school courses only for credit recovery purposes. Every virtual course provides the course content, virtual instructor and grading. All work for the courses is to be completed online.
The three high schools in the district offer 31 virtual courses; however, Educere provides over 5,000 online courses from over 40 education providers. Each school is put in contact with a “Personal Learning Coach,” which is an individual that is available to assist with any online course difficulties. Educere runs on an Edtell technology platform, which according to the website entitled, Educere: The Smart Course, "enables us to deliver turnkey, customized education programs to each client.”
Educere provides instruction to a variety of educational levels: (1) high school, (2) middle school, (3) elementary school, (4) high school advanced placement, (5) four-year college, (6) two-year college, and lastly, (7) vocational.
Approaches used to deliver a course range from the Internet, email, Streaming Video, Streaming Audio, DVD, CD, Video Tape, Audio Tape, Real-time Telephone-based Meetings, Real-time Web-based Voice Meetings, Real-time Web-based Text Meetings, Print Materials, and Traditional Mail. Most course are delivered in an asynchronous (anywhere, anytime) atmosphere, some programs may include synchronous (real-time) elements. Standard components of a web-based program may consist of an online syllabus, calendar, streaming video or audio lectures, interactive problems, lecture notes, threaded discussions, live chat room, exams, grades, and email and resource links. A select amount of courses could require that students purchase textbooks, supplementary materials, and proctored, offline examinations.
